មន្រ្តីជាន់ខ្ពស់ ក្រសួង ការងារ ថៃ បានឲ្យដឹង កាលពីម្សិលមិញនេះ ថា, បច្ចុប្បន្ន ពលករខ្មែរ មិនស្របច្បាប់ ដែលកំពុង បម្រើការងារ នៅប្រទេស ថៃ មានជាង ៨៤ ម៉ឺននាក់ (840,000) ខណៈពលករ ស្របច្បាប់ មានជាង ៨ ម៉ឺន ៧ ពាន់នាក់ (87,000) (ដកស្រង់ ពីកាសែត ភ្នំពេញប៉ុស្តិ៍ ថ្ងៃ ០៥ កុម្ភៈ ២០១៥)។

ជនជាតិខ្មែរ ចំណាកស្រុក មានចំនួន ច្រើនយ៉ាងនេះ ដោយសារ មូលហេតុ ២ យ៉ាង៖

- យុវជន រកការងារធ្វើ មិនបាន នៅស្រុកកំណើត។

- កសិករ ខ្វះដី ធ្វើស្រែចំការ (ដោយសារ ដី ជាច្រើន ត្រូវ បានផ្តល់ ជាសម្បទាន ឲ្យទៅក្រុមហ៊ុន ឯកជន ធំៗ) និងខ្វះ ទីផ្សារ, មិនអាច លក់ផលដំណាំ ឲ្យបានតម្លៃ សមរម្យ, ហើយ ផលិតភាព កសិកម្ម នៅប្រទេស កម្ពុជា ទាបពន់ពេក ដោយសារ ខ្វះការជួយ ឧបត្ថម្ភ ពីរដ្ឋអំណាច។

A high-ranking official at the Thai Labor Ministry said yesterday there are now more than 840,000 Cambodian illegal workers in Thailand while the number of Cambodian legal workers exceeds 87,000 (Phnom Penh Post, 5 Feb. 2015).

The reasons why there are so many Cambodian migrant workers in neighboring countries are twofold:

- Youth cannot find work in Cambodia 

- Farmers are short of farmland (due to large land concessions given to big private companies) and they lack markets to sell their crops at decent prices at a time when agricultural productivity in Cambodia is very low due to government neglect.
