Mr. William Ruto must show up at the ICC – Bensouda

Journalists for Justice | 10 Jan. 2014

Deputy President William Ruto must show up at the International Criminal Court says the ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

The Prosecutor says, “The Request should be denied for three reasons:

(i)                 it is contrary to the plain text of Rule 134quater, which does not authorise “blanket excusals”;2

(ii)               it advances a reading of Rule 134quater that is inconsistent with the Statute; and

(iii)             it fails to make the necessary factual showing.

[International Criminal Court has been too focused on Africa and has been looking toward Asia, but Burma has not signed on to the ICC; Cambodia, on the other hand, ratified the ICC and thus under its jurisdiction, and its autocratic leaders are making a case for itself to go to the ICC!]
