PHNOM PENH - The body of an Italian tourist missing for weeks was found on a Cambodian resort island, local media reported Tuesday.

Police ruled Natan Carnevali's death a suicide after finding several pills near his body. The 32-year-old was found about 4 kilometres inside a forest of Koh Rong island, according to the Cambodia Daily.

"He is known to have visited Koh Rong island on April 21 and subsequently went missing under mysterious circumstances," Sihanoukville provincial deputy police chief Kol Phally was quoted as saying by the Cambodia Daily.

Provincial immigration police chief Men Oddom said officials from the Italian embassy in Thailand retrieved the body Friday.

"The Italian officials from the embassy went to investigate the scene on that same day and then, in accordance with his mother's wishes, his body was cremated near the scene yesterday," he said.
