Germany celebrate World Cup triumph over Argentina as Angela Merkel congratulates country's goal hero 'super' Mario Götze

Germany wins World CUp

Germany were crowned World Cup winners last night with Angela Merkel, the country's prime minister, leading the celebrations. She hugged the players as they went up to receive their medals and the Jules Rimet Trophy. Germany's hero was Mario Götze, who scored in the 22nd minute of extra time, finally putting the side ahead with just eight minutes to go. Argentina, whose star Messi failed to score from a free kick in the dying minutes were left in tears. In the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro stadium, fans included David Beckham who brought sons Brooyklyn, Romeo and Cruz., all wearing Argentina strips.
