Cambodia warns China-bound women
Kyodo News / Bangkok Post | 17 Sep 2014
Cambodia wants its women to think twice about
going to China for work or marriage as they risk falling into the
clutches of human traffickers, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said
Wednesday.
Koy Kuong told Kyodo News his ministry has appealed to "all
Cambodian citizens to pay serious caution and not fall for the tricks of
brokers who take our Cambodian daughters to work or marry Chinese men
in China with the promise of wealth and other things."
So far this year, he said, more than 30 Cambodian women who went to
China after being deceived by brokers have been repatriated with the
assistance of Cambodia's embassy and consulates there.
Six more trafficking victims, two of them pregnant, were due to return home late Wednesday, the spokesman said.
