Vietnamese cultural week taking place in Cambodia

A Vietnamese cultural week is currently taking place in two Cambodian cities, with the objective of cementing
ties between Vietnam and Cambodia, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture,
Sports, and Tourism said Tuesday on its website.
“Tuan Le Van Hoa Viet Nam Tai Campuchia” (Vietnamese Cultural Week in
Cambodia), which opened on August 31 and will wrap up on September 5 in
Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, aims at tightening the friendship and
cooperation between the two countries.
The event has welcomed Le Khanh Hai, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of
Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine
Arts Phoeurng Sackona, as well as local students and Vietnamese living
in Cambodia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at Chaktomuk Conference Hall in Phnom
Penh, Minister Sackona said that the solidarity, friendship, and
cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam are valuable assets of the two
nations.
The opening night featured a concert called, “Viet Nam – Campuchia, Noi
Vong Tay Be Ban” (Vietnam – Cambodia, Connecting the Arms of [Occupier and Occupied] Friends),
in which artists from the Youth Theater of Vietnam and the Vietnam
National Academy of Music performed traditional songs and dances that
promote their country’s culture and people.
According to Le Khanh Hai, the cultural week is an important event which will boost the cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, as it is a chance for Cambodian people to have a better understanding of Vietnamese culture.
Besides concerts, the event has also highlighted Vietnam’s
UNESCO-recognized natural and cultural heritage at a photo exhibition
organized at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh.
