A senior Cambodian politician is calling on Australia to reconsider plans for a refugee agreement with the country.
A senior Cambodian politician is calling on Australia to
reconsider plans for a refugee deal between the two nations, saying it
would have negative consequences for his country.
First Vice
president of the National Assembly, Kem Sokha, made the plea in a letter
to Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, Alison Burrows.
He says
he's heard from Bhuddist monks, students and intellectuals who have
voiced concerns about the possible economic and social consequences.
Joyce Fu is executive director of an Australian NGO working in Cambodia called Corner Link.
She told Biwa Kwan the Cambodian government is under growing pressure to back out of the deal.
