CAMBODIA'S
CURSE (Joel Brinkley): "Human rights groups estimated that 650,000 more people had died in the year following the fall of the Khmer Rouge."
Theary Seng:
So, in 1979-1980, Cambodia had a population of less than 4
million (5 M survivors MINUS this 650,000 deaths MINUS another 500,000
refugees who went to Europe, US, Canada, Austr/NZ)
Now, 34 years later, we have over 15 million, almost 4-fold
increase -- out of KR survivors who were malnourished, skeletal,
encountering famine and with the LITTLE aid seeping through the still
closed country under Vietnamese occupation being diverted by the
occupying power to Vietnam! It's either MIRACULOUS fertility
(prodigenousness??) or the flooding of the 10 million Vietnamese by 2000
that Elizabeth Becker writes about in WHEN THE WAR WAS OVER.
