Introduction

Vietnam's decision to invade and occupy Cambodia in December 1978 was not inevitable in any objective sense...

The background cause was the imperial ambition of Vietnam's communist leadership, which had always wished to dominate the entire region of what was formerly French Indochina [Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos].
