មិនា
What is the pronunciation of the month of March in Khmer, មិនា? It's mi'near, and NOT mi'nah, correct? Both consonants have "samleng thom" thus the srak ា "ah" has the sound of "ear". But why do some lead RFA reporters/hosts pronounce មិនា as "mi'nah"? I don't think there's an exception to the rule to this pronunciation.

The correct spelling of the word is មីនា not មិនា and the proper pronunciation is Mii Nea
ReplyDeletesimilar to ជីលា (ជីលួត-ជីលា) ។ Why some people mispronounced it ? I guess because they
got confused with the word មិថុនា which is pronounced Mi Thu Na.
So we all should remember these words : មីនា - ទីឃាយុ - វីរភាព / ទិវា -មិថុនា -ទិវង្គត ។

Hasn't the Khmer language itself been Vietnamized by leaps and bounds [southwards] already during the past three decades under the HUN SEN CPP Viet-controlled regime?
