Thailand’s ruling military junta has claimed Bangkok’s deadliest-ever bombing is unlikely to be the work of international terrorists, even though investigators previously said the man suspected of planting the device was foreign.

The government called on Thursday for international help in probing the attack at the Erawan shrine, which left 20 dead, which police say probably involved 10 or more people and was planned a month in advance.

The latest flurry of bold official statements comes despite a dearth of hard evidence since Monday’s bombing, with the important exception of security camera footage of the prime suspect and several possible accomplices.
