[Vietnamization] US gov’t still looking for map: Todd

US gov’t still looking for map: Todd

Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong yesterday bid farewell to outgoing US Ambassador William Todd, using the opportunity to ask about Prime Minster Hun Sen’s request for maps held by the US.

In July, Hun Sen sent requests to the US, United Nations, France and the UK for the original, constitutionally recognised charts of the Kingdom, which he wants to help “verify” the ongoing border demarcation process with Vietnam.

In a closed-door meeting yesterday to mark the ambassador’s impending departure, Namhong asked for an update.

Todd, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Chum Sounry, said the US was still searching for the right map.

The pair also praised their countries’ bilateral relations, discussed the Law on Association and Non-Governmental Organisations, which Todd has previously criticised, and regional issues including the South China Sea.

Also yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said maps promised by the UN would be handed over at a ceremony at the Peace Palace on August 20, while France was also due to send maps soon.
