កាលពី ១៥ ឆ្នាំមុន (មករា-កុម្ភ: ២០០១) ដើម្បី សងគុណ អ្នកម្តាយ ដែលទើបតែ បានទទួល មរណភាព, ខ្ញំុ បានសាងផ្នួស រយ:ពេល មួយខែ នៅវត្ត បទុមវត្តី ក្នុងរាជធានី ភ្នំពេញ។  Fifteen years ago (January-February 2001), following my mother’s death and in accordance with a Cambodian tradition for the circumstance, I became a Buddhist monk for a month at Wat Botum Vattei, a pagoda near the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.
