Military Continues Cooperation with Vietnam

Vietnam’s
National Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich committed to expanding
bilateral military cooperation with Cambodia in a meeting with Prime
Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace yesterday.
Mr.
Xuan Lich spoke to Mr. Hun Sen during his three-day official visit to
the Kingdom. He will meet with Defense Minister Tea Banh today.
Kao
Kim Hourn, a minister attached to the prime minister’s office, told
media that Vietnam has previously assisted Cambodia’s military.
“He
[Mr. Xuan Lich] said he will continue cooperation by providing army
officials for training and building human resources in the sector,” Dr.
Kim Hourn said.
He
added that the premier urged the defense minister to boost bilateral
military cooperation to ensure regional peace and stability.
Early
last month, Cambodia and Vietnam’s security ministries signed a
cooperation agreement committing to the fight [Cambodian patriots against Vietnamese] against cross-border
crime[s]. At that time, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security promised
to grant equipment and technical support for the Interior Ministry to
assist Cambodian police.
