Cambodia charges 68-year-old Australian man with espionage after 'flying a drone over an opposition rally'

 The Independent | 13 June 2017

An Australian man is facing up to 10-years imprisonment in Cambodia after he allegedly flew a drone over an opposition rally.
James Ricketson, a 68-year-old filmmaker, has been accused of espionage by authorities in the country.

If convicted under  article 446 of Cambodia’s Penal Code he could be sentenced to between five and 10 years behind bars for “receiving or collecting information, processes, objects, documents, computerised data or files, with a view to supplying them to a foreign state or its agents, which are reliable to prejudice the national defence.”
He was arrested after he was seen flying a drone over a gathering of members from the CNRP, the country’s main opposition political party, according to local media reports.
Held in “pre-trial detention” at the Prey Sar prison in the capital of Phnom Penh, he was eventually charged with “collecting information prejudicial to national security.”
The crime is listed under the treason and espionage section.
Lou Rabo, the deputy municipal police chief in charge of immigration, told the Australian Associated Press that he was arrested after failing to immediately produce a passport.
“He didn't respond about where he lives," he said. "Under questioning, he didn't’t reply, meaning he was living in our country illegally, therefore we took him to the office.”

Arrogant foreigner! You come to Cambodia, you must lay low or you will be either: jailed by the government or robbed by the non-government.

You must travel in group and make sure you don't stick out to give the local any mean to rip you off.

      To Anonymous10:03 AM:

We learn that the Vietnamese poster (s) is very bad and hypocrite because they they try to impress how well they do. I know that Vietnam has a very bad reputation in the world. It seems to be quiet about them (Vietnamese) when they don't open their big mouths just because they lied so much about their success. I know where the Vietnam and Vietnamese folks coming from on this earth.

All you know is that just ignore about their posts and how they brag about Vietnam.

Also, I have conducted my own research about Cambodia's Killing Fields. I understand that Vietnam was behind its Killing Fields and many tourists and folks around the world are confused about Khmer Rouges being blamed as the scapegoats. We know that Cambodia has been secretly colonized by the Vietnamese in the blind eyes of the foreigners because Hun Sen was installed by the Vietnamese in order for the Vietnamese to take advantage of Cambodia's natural resources to feed their over-crowed Vietnamese populations. I know that there are illegal Vietnamese immigrants floating on the water in Cambodia because I have seen them according the reports from Dr. Kem Ley.

Read what the expats living in Cambodia write about Cambodia and Vietnam:

Cambodia and Vietnam development since the 1970s

This might take have been covered before but what are the generally accepted reasons why Cambodia has failed so dismally to develop after the excesses of the KR period, while Vietnam has pushed ahead so quickly since their war and looks increasingly like its developing into a modern and complex economy?

Because expansionist Yuon always interferes, intervenes
and installs its third- hands in Cambodia affairs.
      We will cut those hands.
