Cambodian king appoints new governor of capital Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has appointed Phnom Penh Municipal vice-governor Khuong Sreng as the governor, replacing retired governor Pa Socheatvong.
"Samdech Techo Hun Sen, prime minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, must take responsibility to implement this royal decree from the day of signature," the monarch said in a royal decree dated Friday and released to the media on Saturday.
He said that Khuong Sreng's appointment was made at the prime minister's request.
Phnom Penh, the capital and largest city of Cambodia, is home to approximately 2.2 million people. It is the nation's center of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, culture, and education.
A governor's term is four years and the retiring age is 60.
