PHNOM PENH, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian National Assembly on Monday amended the Law on Political Parties.
The legal changes bar political parties from "using voice, images, documents in writing or activities of anyone convicted of felony or misdemeanor."
The changes also bar political parties from "conspiring" with convicts for their political benefits.
Those found in violation will be prohibited from political activities for up to five years and banned from competing in elections, or entirely dissolved.
Also, the amendments prohibit political parties from supporting or organizing plans with anyone to undertake actions against the interest of Cambodia.
Ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) lawmaker Cheam Yeap said the changes aimed to prevent political parties from associating with convicts to destroy peace, security and people's livelihood.
