Metfone operator plans for big foreign revenue
Phnom Penh Post | 28 July 2017
Viettel Group, the Vietnamese military-owned operator of
Cambodian mobile operator Metfone, expects to pull in $1.4 billion in
revenue this year from overseas investments, Vietnamese state-owned
media reported yesterday.
The report claims Viettel has 50 million subscribers in foreign
markets, a 35 percent increase compared to the same time last year.
The company operates in Cambodia, Laos, East Timor, Peru, Haiti,
Burundi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Cameroon, and has plans to launch
operations in Myanmar after securing a telecom licence earlier this
year.
Viettel put Metfone’s current subscriber base at 7 million, according
to the report. It previously claimed to have over 11 million
subscribers in Cambodia.
Vietnam also has Vinamilk and FPT (a high-tech software) companies which pull in billions of dollars in revenue.
