Vietnam, Cambodia localities sign new cooperation agreement

Dong Thap (VNA) – Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap and Cambodia’s northwestern province of Banteay Meanchey have inked an agreement on bilateral cooperation for the 2016-2020 period.
The two sides were unanimous to maintain exchange activities and promote bilateral trade, services and tourism as well as encourage investment in agriculture and farm produce consumption, while facilitating the exchange of each other’s students and officials.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Dong Thap on December 21, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Hung, said with the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable, long-term cooperation”, Dong Thap has paid attention to building relations with international partners, including Banteay Meanchey – which boasts large potential for agricultural development.
The two sides signed their first cooperation agreement in 2011 for the period of 2011-2015, in the spirit of friendship, solidarity and mutual understanding for the sake of the two peoples, he noted.
The new deal for 2016-2020 will allow the two localities’ departments and businesses to spur socio-economic growth and tighten solidarity.
Suon Bovor, Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, recognised the assistance of Dong Thap over the past time and hoped the two sides will step up cooperative ties and forge connectivity among businesses.
Dong Thap and Banteay Meanchey actively shared experience and know-how in culture, social affairs, trade, and agriculture between 2011 and 2015.
After the serious flood in 2013, Dong Thap provided rice seeds to Vietnamese and Cambodian residents and military in Banteay Meanchey and doled out 5 billion VND for the Cambodian province to build the headquarters of its military command./.
