I've read the full article in Wikipedia and I disagreed with all 3 hypotheses which presented there. My own thinking is that the molecular make ups of oil, scent, fragrance produced by the leaves of those particular trees cause some sort of interference zone or field to the other branches of nearby trees to capture gaseous nutrients to grow. With that effect, it appears like they avoid to be approached each other. It called allelopathic effects.

Anyhow, I'm not a botanist or a tree scientist !!!
