Royal Academy of Cambodia To Publish Book on Laos-Cambodia Border

The Cambodia Daily | 18 August 2017

Cambodia’s highest academic institution, the Royal Academy of Cambodia, intends to publish a book on the ongoing creation of the border between Laos and Cambodia, the head of the academy said Friday.

The announcement by Sok Touch, president of the Royal Academy, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Council of Ministers, comes just a week after Prime Minister Hun Sen made an emergency trip to Laos to quash a dispute over an area between the neighboring countries that still lacks demarcation.

“It won’t be long that we’re going to publish a book of about 100 pages long to talk about the area, strategy, and history, to tell the next generation of Cambodians,” Mr. Touch said during a news conference.

“If Laos steps out on the land, we have book…so that politicians won’t take border issues to pollute the atmosphere in the future. In two months, we are going to have a history book about that,” he said.
Last Saturday, Mr. Hun Sen flew to Vientiane to meet with his Laos counterpart, Thongloun Sisoulith, after 92 Laos soldiers had massed at the border, and Cambodia had responded by  sending a contingent of its own. Following negotiations, Laos agreed to withdraw its troops while talks about the border continued.
Mr. Touch said the book, whose title was not announced, will be published by the academy.
