I
am reminded of another great quote from Macbeth that describes
Cambodians who do the bidding of atrocious regimes in that they take no
responsibility for their actions because they were only in character. I
think this mentality affects and infects individuals in pre-modern
societies more than they do modern ones:
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
