THE CAMBODIAN DEMOCRATIC OPPOSITION HAS NO ANTI-VIETNAMESE SENTIMENT AND ALLEGATIONS TO THE CONTRARY ARE ILL-FOUNDED AND UNFAIR
Most of the documents justifying the above assertion can be found on this website https://tinyurl.com/yacqoyce. They can be summarised as follows:
SUMMARY
There is an enduring foreign-entertained allegation of racism, more precisely of anti-Vietnamese sentiment, against the Cambodian democratic opposition represented by the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) led by Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha.
This allegation -- which is noticeably not made by Cambodian people -- stems from ignorance of the Khmer history, culture and language on the part of some Western observers, who then become prone to misjudgement or vulnerable to political manipulation.
Strangely enough, the whole allegation starts with -- and revolves around -- one single word: the term "Yuon" as used by opposition politicians and countless other Cambodians to mean "Vietnamese" (1).
Intriguingly enough, some Western observers pretend -- and have convinced a number of their colleagues -- that this term "Yuon" is offensive, derogatory and has a racist connotation. This has led to the publication of simplistic, sensational and repetitive reports on Cambodian politics actually built on the continuous misinterpretation of the word "Yuon."
In the same way as Thai people, before colonisation of the region, were known as Siamese, the Vietnamese were referred to in Cambodia as “Yuon”. The Khmer people have been using this word for centuries to just mean "Vietnamese,” which is a recently created word known in Cambodia only after the end of French colonial rule in 1953. The semantical controversy and the resulting allegation of racism created by some Westerners results from their misunderstanding of an old Khmer word as well as their inability to make the nuanced difference between political correctness and genuine civility. Please read explanations in three texts respectively titled "Yuon: What’s in a xenonym?" (2), "The word ”Yuon” and its origins" (3) and “Claim That ‘Yuon’ Is a Racist Term Should Be Put to Rest” (4).
In the late 1970s the ultra nationalist and anti-Vietnamese Khmer Rouge hijacked the century-old neutral word “Yuon” by giving it a negative meaning. In reaction, under the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia from 1979 to 1989, the word “Yuon” was virtually banned. Nowadays, given Vietnam’s lingering political influence, the word still faces a subtle political restriction in its usage when one speaks publicly. But many people, in a natural way, use “Yuon” and “Vietnamese” interchangeably.
Ironically enough, the government-applauded anti-Vietnamese allegation against the opposition took an unexpected turn when government spokesman Phay Siphan alleged that my mother was Vietnamese and attributed my “bad” behaviour to my being of Vietnamese descent. Hun Sen did nothing to disapprove his spokesman but I decided to set the record straight through a letter in The Cambodia Daily: "I would like to say to all government propagandists that even if my mother were Vietnamese there would be nothing wrong with it. Let’s be clear on this point: I am not against -- and all Cambodians should not oppose -- the Vietnamese just because they are Vietnamese. We should only oppose any expansionist policy conducted by any Vietnamese government (or any government of any country) at any point of time. I have been sometimes falsely and unfairly accused of having a racist inclination towards the Vietnamese people only because of my firmly defending the legitimate interests of the Cambodian people against a neighbouring country that does not respect them on many occasions. But what government spokesman Phay Siphan says or implies, i.e. that having Vietnamese blood in one’s veins is a liability, shows a really racist mindset and attitude" (5).
Beyond the ill-founded anti-Vietnamese allegation based on the use of a single word that is subject to misinterpretation, it appears more appropriate -- before making any judgement -- to examine the unambiguously stated position of the Cambodian opposition on concrete issues involving ethnic minorities.
Concerning the presence of the Vietnamese ethnic minority in Cambodia, how can I be "anti-Vietnamese" when a report in The Phnom Penh Post points out in its title that Sam "Rainsy courts Vietnamese"? (6). In the report I am quoted as saying, "While many Cambodians are fearful and suspicious of Vietnam due to historical grievances, a feeling hastily, unfairly and inaccurately attributed to racism by many foreigners, the CNRP would work to educate the public to respect ethnic Vietnamese citizens. We will educate Cambodian people as a whole to respect those [Vietnamese] people . . . Those who were wrongly considered as foreigners. We must educate Khmer people, these are Khmer citizens as you and I and we must respect their rights and grant them Cambodian citizenship."
Ironically enough, the anti-Vietnamese allegation has recently changed sides, with Prime Minister Hun Sen accusing Sam Rainsy of “treason” for promising Cambodian citizenship to Vietnamese residents born in Cambodia (see above paragraph). Asia Times attributes to Hun Sen "the [recent] harassment and deportation of Vietnamese citizens from Cambodia, some of whom had been living in the country for generations" (7). Furthermore, an ultra-nationalist Hun Sen accuses Sam Rainsy of “treason” when it comes to dealing with issues involving Vietnam. The Phnom Penh Post titles an article "Hun Sen questions Vietnam’s loyalty, accuses Sam Rainsy of treason," and specifies, "[Hun Sen] said [Sam] Rainsy, the former president of the now-dissolved CNRP, pledged citizenship to ethnic Vietnamese living in Cambodia, a position with which he [Hun Sen] professed to disagree" (8).
On the international scene the CNRP was the only political party in Cambodia to protest against the violation of human rights of ethnic minorities from neighbouring countries, such as the forceful repatriation by the Hun Sen government of asylum seekers from Vietnam (Montagnards from the Central Highlands) and China (Uyghurs from Xinjiang) (9), (10), (11) and (12).
Sam Rainsy was also among the first voices from Asia to condemn the inhuman treatment of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Burma (a Buddhist country like Cambodia) and to call on Burmese leaders to respect Buddhist precepts of tolerance and compassion towards all living creatures, starting with human beings (13).
I therefore urge all Western observers not to fall into oversimplification and sensationalism when analysing Cambodian politics. They should first read this clarification before unprofessionally and unfairly repeating -- in a closed circle -- groundless allegations of xenophobia or racism they have heard some ignorant or ill-intended people professing against the CNRP and its leaders.
Sam Rainsy
Former President of the CNRP

A couple years ago, CNRP approached China and was totally ignored. Now that CNRP and the so called CNRM have no option but to turn to Vietnam for help. Look at that blatant spin.

I bet Vietnam will totally ignore CNRM unless... CNRM promises some lands to Vietnam.

"We must free our country from the hands of this leadership," opposition leader Sam Rainsy harangued during a speech in the United States. "The leadership is destroying our country, murdering it bit by bit. They are giving the 'yuon' the chance to kill Cambodia." In Cambodia's Khmer language, 'yuon' is a term for the Vietnamese.
    ---------------------------------
It's totally unfair to portray Sam Rainsy as racist. He is actually a really nice guy. He was only kidding when he was making the above statement about Vietnamese killing Khmer to incite Khmer to go anti CPP and Vietnamese.

One more thing: Germans are stupid and Khmers are smart; according to Sam Rainsy's style.

The CNRP called for people not to go to vote is not the right medecine for Cambodia's sickness. It does not matter how many voters turn out at the polled station, Ah Kwack will proclaim that the CPP is the winner of the election. Any peaceful protestion will be persecuted by his new government as color revolution.

Here is one of the solutions:

WHAT MUST KHMER PEOPLE DO IN THIS 2018 UPCOMING ELECTION ?

Khmer people have done the right thing by planning to vote Hun Sen out in this 2018 election, but Hun Sen crushed Khmer people's hope after he has dissolved the CNRP.

TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, Khmer people need to wage a nationwide peaceful demonstration demanding for the REINSTATEMENT OF THE CNRP a few days before the election day and let it go on until the election day, MAKING THE ELECTION IMPOSSIBLE. I firmly believe this is the only opportunity that Khmer people have left to fight this evil Vietnam and its slave Hun Sen effectively. The dissolution of the CNRP was unconstitutional. The international community is waiting for some peaceful but powerful actions from Khmer people first before they can intervene.

As always, inaction produces zero result.

If Khmer people fail to stop the July 2018 election, Hun Sen will proclaim that the CPP is the winner and he is the new Prime Minister of the new government. Any peaceful demonstration afterward will be persecuted by his new government as color revolution.

That's why the demonstration to stop the 2018 election is extremely crucial. We must help ourselves first before the international community can help us. We must exert our right to force Hun Sen to reinstate the CNRP so that it could participate in the election.

If the CNRP won the election and Hun Sen and his master Vietnam did not relinquish the power, then a nationwide peaceful demonstration demanding the loser to abide by the electoral rule will be made. The International community will spontaneously support Khmer people who stood up for their right.

Notice that we must OFFICIALLY win the election first (that means the NEC declares that the winner is the CNRP) before the international community can help us. It is imperative that Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha stay tightly united in order to win the election. Some Khmer people such as James Sok, Kem Monovithia should stop trying to elevate Kem Sokha and put Sam Rainsy down to create friction between these 2 men and their respective supporters.

Sam Rainsy alone cannot win the election. Kem Sokha alone cannot win the election. We need both of them to win the election.

This is the right time to sacrifice our life for our motherland. We must stop this election to force Hun Sen to let the CNRP in the election. Yuon and its slave Hun Sen will not give up Cambodia easily. We must fight hard with the right cause at the right time to get Cambodia back from Vietnam.

      --------------------
Woahahaha... The two of them are widely known to bicker, to back-stab each other in the back. Case and one:

      1. In 2013, Kem Sokha told his supporters that USA has chosen him to lead the change of regime in Cambodia. Sam Rainsy's agent secretly video recorded the full statement (with a camera attached at the waste line) then gave the video to Mr. Hun Sen.

Mr. Hun Sen showed that to Kem Sokha, then offered to help him to topple Sam Rainsy, then take over CNRP as the sole-president.

After that, Sam Rainsy threatened to sue Mr. Hun Sen over the video clip (as he has made a copy). Thus, Mr. Hun Sen had no choice but to arrest Kem Sokha.

      2. In 2015, Sam Rainsy was asked why he did not return to Cambodia, he answered "Only I can save Cambodia, not Kem Sokha, hence I must stay alive. If I came back to Cambodia, Hun Sen would kill me so that Kem Sokha would take over CNRP." Ok, I paraphrase him, but the public record is out there.

Immediately, Kem Sokha's daughter fired back. Read here:
      https://thediplomat.com/2016/11/the-trouble-with-cambodias-largest-opposition-party/

It started with a tweet: “Somebody watches too much movies on their free time. If you respect the audience you at least make your lies sound believable. #insult #sad.”

So wrote Kem Monovithya, deputy head of public affairs of Cambodia’s largest opposition party, the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), and daughter of the party’s vice-president, Kem Sokha.

Monovithya’s comments, expressed last month, came as a response to the proposal made by the CNRP’s president, Sam Rainsy, who has been in exile for the last year, that he would return to face imprisonment for the release of several CNRP politicians currently in jail. Days later, following the imprisoned CNRP politicians’ rejection of the so-called prisoner swap, and following Sam Rainsy’s criticism of China for encouraging human rights abuses in Cambodia, Monovithya took to Twitter again: “Cnrp official stance prioritizes Cambodia’s interests and regional stability. Not erratic positions based on wild theories/one’s moodiness.”

Scam Rainsy now asked Japan to make sure the 2018 election in Cambodia to be open and fair! But just a couple months ago, he demanded the election to be canceled unless he is allowed to participated (along with another royal pardon and a few million dollars in compensation!)

He even threatened of violence if the election was held without him!!!

    The questions are:
_ Does Scam Rainsy even think when he opens his speak his infantile words?
_ Does Scam Rainsy remember anything he said?

The evil Vietnam has presented a devil one eye monster Hun Sen for Khmer people to solve.

This heartless airhead Hun Sen was never afraid to smash ANYTHING - Khmer people's life, Khmer's natural resource, Khmer's territorial integrity - that posed a threat to his undeserved power.

    What should Khmer people do?

If Khmer people really love Cambodia, they should rise up by mounting a sustained nationwide peaceful demonstration demanding for the REINSTATEMENT of the CNRP and its reintegration in this upcoming election. The election is the only means that Khmer people can disrupt Vietnam's plan to swallow Cambodia.

If Khmer people opt to sleep by staying quite during this most critical time, they should not regret and cry later when the Vietnamization of Cambodia is completed in the near future.

I wish to watch new clips of Khmer demonstrators vs. the police. I am tired of watch the old clips... But the Khemrs are very afraid of the batons now a day. Apparently the newly supplied batons from China are so good, they hurt a lot more. LOL...
