The
Justice Ministries of Cambodia and Vietnam will sign agreements
regarding inmate transfers and mutual assistance, according to Cambodian
Ministry of Justice spokesman Chin Malin. The agreements will make it
easier and more efficient for the Justice Ministries to crack down on
border crimes, particularly those related to the drug trade.
During
a meeting with officials from the Cambodian Justice Ministry,
Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong spoke with Cambodian
Justice Minister Ang Vong Vathana about the highly successful
cooperation between the two countries and their implementation of a
cooperative MoU issued in 2009 as well as two agreements from 2013
pertaining to extradition and civil sector assistance, Mr. Malin said.
“This
meeting was to find better and more effective mechanics for the
agreements that we already had, and included the discussion of a number
of new agreements for future cooperation,” Mr. Malin said, adding that
both ministers plan to sign two new agreements regarding inmate
transfers and cooperation between the countries’ criminal sectors.
In
the meeting, both officials raised points and addressed the issue of
securing the border, particularly strengthening cooperation to prevent
and crackdown on border crimes including those having to do with drugs,
Mr. Malin said.
He
added that in 2016, both parties pledged to strengthen their mutual
legal support in the fields of law and justice, and will offer each
other important information and documentation pertaining to cases.
No need of intelligence gathering, we all know Yuon expansionists are the criminals.
