Even if the word "Yuon " is indeed pejorative, racist and degrading, that's fine and deserving for the evil Viet expansionists, thieves, extortionists and murderers.
We do NOT need to feel awark nor be apologetic in using the Yuon.
Yuon well deserve to called YUON !
    Let's me make this suggestion.
If Yuon are so offended by this name calling, it's very simple : return all stolen Khmer lands and promise not to do anymore stealings.
If Professor Subedi, or any organizations for that matter feels the pain for Yuon and wants Khmers to stop using this word, just help Khmers to get our stolen lands back.
    It's pure and simple !

I agree with the above brother. If they are not happy when we call them YOURN we should call them A KANTORP OR A NHEUGN.

The issue is less about the word yourn is pejorative or not but about the xenophobic context it was used by CNRP singling out an ethnic group legally or illegally living in Cambodia. Nobody forbids Khmers to use this word but a public figure claiming to be a democrat should be more sensitive in choosing his words. The result is that he is now on the defensive on this issue, with human right organization, the UN on his neck about it. Even a few EU representations have advised KEm Sokha and Sam Rainsy in private meetings to tone done the CNRP xenophobic rhetoric. The xenophobic and racial comments by CNRP supporter to defend the right to use the word yourn (which is absolutely not the point hee) is precisely what Subeidu fears would be the consequences of a politician playing this ultranationalist game. Now the CPP is LOL that it managed to deflect some negative attention to CNRP so that they are not the only one being the bad guys who oppress the demonstrators and stole the election results. Imagine if a few yourns are killed in a massacre orchestrated by CPP to blame the CNRP! It will be easy for CPP to point at CNRP by saying look what is the result of their xenophobic speech, look at their hate comments against yourn in social network!

CNRP and it's supporters used ti blame CPP and Hun Sen thayer cannot accept criticism! Look at how It now denying any wrongdoing about hate speeches even calling Subeidi a fool and blasting Ou Vireak and other watchdogs for being critical. Yes, the yourn government is supporting CPP, yes we have suffered territory lost, yes there is animosity between yourn and Khmer but an astute politician should exploit and fuel racial hate if he wants the support of international community. The CPP is now seeing this week point and will exploit that. Other Asian countries woul not also be very pleased about the statement supporting China against yourn! CNRP should have courted everyone including China and Vietnam against CPP.

Destroy the language and destroy the people.
That is happening now in the U.S. where ghetto English and gutter English is protected speech and to fault it is to be labeled "racist".
Even "illegal alien" has become racist hate speech and we are required to use the politically correct "undocumented alien".

I had a great Vietnamese friend who lived in Cambodia for years and left because of the hassles she endured being Vietnamese. For her the term "youn" is a derogatory term. As usual it is those who find offense that determines whether a word is pejorative and the intent behind its use. For example a Jewish person is indeed a Jew but I can call someone or refer to someone as "a Jew" (just that and nothing else) and its loaded with insulting and derogatory intent and a Jewish person would deem it as such. Ms. Seng who was raised in the US certainly knows this to be true and should be mindful that the term "Youn", no matter its historical context, is pejorative to many and so perhaps shouldn't be used at all. I know personally that while living in Cambodia the term as I understood it to be was always a negative term used by Khmers to refer to a Vietnamese. I certainly would never refer to a Vietnamese person as "Youn" because its usage is meant to offend.
