Dear Sir / Madam,
As you may be aware, I have been retained as an international lawyer to investigate the alleged crimes committed by Cambodian state security forces against civilians since 2002.
Part of this investigation will consider the shootings and mistreatment of civilian protesters during the demonstrations in early January this year.
Please see the attached letters that were delivered today.
There are addressed to:
- Major General Rath Srieng, the head of the Phnom Penh Military Police (gendarmes), and, his superior;
- Mr General Sao Sokha, head of the Cambodian national Military Police.
The letters are pubic record requests made pursuant to our investigation into the shootings of demonstrators. They provide an opportunity for the Military Police chiefs to provide information to assist the investigation.
The letters were also sent in Khmer.
Please contact me if you require further information.
