Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of China | 19 May 2014

On May 18, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia in Shanghai.

Xi Jinping expressed, China and Cambodia enjoy a long history of friendship, which remains steadfast through the trials of time and hardships. It is worth being cherished.  [Only Commies can write this kind of sappy press statement, like a romantic relationship.] No matter how the international situation changes, we must unswervingly carry forward the development of China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as well as the cause of China-Cambodia friendship, so as to pass on the friendship between the two countries and their peoples from generation to generation.

Xi Jinping said, China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Cambodia, strengthen exchanges between ruling parties and share experience of governance and administration of state affairs. The Chinese side supports Prime Minister Hun Sen leading the Cambodian people to follow a development path conform to its national conditions and supports efforts made by Cambodia to safeguard its national security and stability. China will continue to offer help within its capacity for the economic and social development of Cambodia, to promote cooperation in fields such as agriculture and tourism, to well implement the programs of hydropower, coal power and the special economic zone in Cambodia, and to facilitate the connectivity of infrastructures by combining the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt with that of the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century. The two sides should also expand people-to-people and cultural cooperation and promote youth exchanges.

Hun Sen expressed that in April last year he met with President Xi Jinping in Boao. Over the past one year time, the important consensuses they reached have been implemented step by step. The cooperation in various fields and in all dimensions has enjoyed smooth development. The government and the people of Cambodia are grateful to China for the long-term precious support and assistance. They cherish the traditional friendship between the two countries. The Cambodian side is committed to its own national security, stability and development and hopes to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with the Chinese side, to well manage the major programs covering the economy and people's livelihood, and to enhance cooperation in security and law enforcement. Cambodia will, as always, play a positive role in promoting the sound development of ASEAN-China relations. Cambodia will coordinate with China to make the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Summit in Shanghai a success.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Han Zheng, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
