Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This is an issue that we all have
been very passionate about seeing how other democratic countries
morally and politically treat their own citizens abroad in sharp
contrast to the CPP-led government over these past decades.
Our
rights to exercise our vote, regardless of our whereabout, is a
fundamental one. I see that many Khmers, even among the most educated
ones seem to care very little, nor give enough consideration or effort
per say to this major voting bloc. It
worths more than any amount of money a political party can buy, really.
It means everything to the people and the country a different of
nation's survival or otherwise.
It's morally imperative and it has been more than twenty years since
UNTAC. Time to do it right for the country, for all Khmers, regardless
one is pro-CPP or CNRP. It is all good for the country and the free
loving people of Cambodia.
We would sincerely urge our compatriots, leaders of all Khmer community to seriously take a few minutes to reflect on this issue and digest on what could had happened if Khmer abroad were allowing to vote in the last general election in Cambodia? The balance of power is right there. It's not about money or technical issue, but it is politics and the politics pro khmers or pro-something else.
Isn't it time to think about this potential bloc of Khmer Voters from Overseas and start to mobilize your own community to push that project to its fruition? The failure to see this key aspect of our rights, the rights to vote from overseas, is almost like we are doing our politics from overseas, half-blinded, per say.
Honestly, this is one of the reasons we support Ms. Theary Seng's candidacy to the NEC, knowing that she is simply one among the best educated Khmers of our generation from the West. A person that just can't be bought.
Ms Seng understood our aspiration to fully participate in the country's democratic election. We wanted someone who understood us well, listen to our voices of concerns and not afraid to defend the interests of Khmer overseas.
I know that I can count on Ms. Seng to do that on behalf of all Khmers from overseas.
