Paris Peace Accords 23 Oct. 1991

If the growing conversations of the possible launch of a new political party spearheaded by Mr. Kem Ley is true, and that he is roping in the social media doyenne Miss Thy Sovantha, then they are yet two more recent examples of Khmer fantastic egotism that have contributed to the inglorious decline of Cambodia throughout the centuries and that have baffled serious Cambodian researchers and historians.

Immediately a couple of thoughts rushed to mind:

1.       Human nature feeds the ego, and how much so for the Khmer ego!  It appears that the egos of Mr. Kem Ley and Miss Sovantha have fallen prey to this feeding, the sudden surge of gross popularity from obscurity.

2.       The fact that Miss Sovantha is being lured away from the CNRP should serve as a costly lesson to Miss Kem Monovithya and her mouthpiece Mr. Eng Ponlork in demonizing Miss Sovantha with shrill exaggeration, publicly, unfoundedly, repeatedly, in juvenile, bullying fashion, which only acted to make Miss Sovantha more popular and question her future with the CNRP (and may just turn her into what they had initially, inaccurately accused her of being, a CPP operative).  Lord Buddha and other traditions warn against envy.  There’s a good reason for that.
