| Some members of CNRP of North America leadership: Cambodian Senator Teav Vannol, Sarorn Seng, Makarar Thhai (representative of CNRP-Europe), KimLy Chea, (leader of CNRP-NA), Kovid Ho, Pretty Ma (8 Oct. 2014, California) |
[Theary Seng: TRUE. I know the leadership of
CNRP of North America (Chea Kim Ly, Pretty Ma, the late Dr. Phalkun Tan,
brother Mardi Seng, etc.) as people of great integrity -- FINANCIAL and
otherwise. Now, the financial giving within the country
is substantial as more opposition supporters are wealthier, but prior
to this 2013 election cycle, the bulk of financial funding came from
overseas, mainly North America, over the past 18 years, beginning with
Khmer Nation Party, Sam Rainsy Party, and now the CNRP -- the sweat and
blood of the Cambodian diaspora yet struggling to move up the economic
ladder from broken refugees to middle class Americans (Canadians,
French, Australians, Kiwis, etc.). It makes sense that financial
contribution be documented and be channelled to an established structure
to be forwarded to Phnom Penh, with proven record of financial
accountability rather than having unknown thousands be shoved into the
private pockets of individual leaders. This is elementary.]
Phnom Penh Post:
But leaders of CNRP-NA, which raised more than $1 million in 2013 and 2014 for the party, say that they are “the backbone of the party”.
“[For] 18 years, we’ve done a lot of work, political, financial to support the party,” said Chea Kim Ly, the group’s president.
