Cambodia inaugurates Vietnamese-funded MRO facility

The Royal Cambodian Army (RCA) on 27 February inaugurated a military maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility funded by the Vietnam Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Vietnam's news agency said the MRO site - in Battambang province, near the Cambodian-Thai border - will enable the RCA to support main battle tanks (MBTs), armoured vehicles, and unspecified weapons.

The RCA operates a mix of ageing Chinese and Soviet-era land systems including a total of about 200 Soviet industries' T-54/T-55 MBTs and NORINCO Type 59 MBTs.

According to the Vietnam government, the MRO facility cost USD80,000 to construct, with funding sourced from military aid provided to Cambodia by Hanoi in September 2014.
