RATTANAKIRI, Cambodia, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung inaugurated two border pillars on Saturday, announcing that 83.2 percent of the shared border has been demarcated.

The two leaders jointly unveiled the border marker of northeastern Cambodia's Rattanakiri province and Vietnam's Gia Lai province, as well as the border pillar of southern Cambodia's Takeo province and Vietnam's An Giang province.

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony, Hun Sen said the clear border pillars would help build the border into an area of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

"The achievements we jointly inaugurate today are a symbol of close cooperation between the two countries to transform border area to the potential zone for economics, trade, investment and tourism," he said.

According to the prime minister, the border marker in Rattanakiri province is located near the O'Yadaw International Checkpoint and the border pillar in Takeo province is situated near the Phnom Den International Checkpoint.

Prime Minister Dung highly spoke of good relations and cooperation between the two neighbors in all fields, particularly security, politics, economics, trade, investment and tourism.

"The inauguration of the border markers is a historical milestone for the two countries, reflecting the high commitment of leaders of the two countries in building a border of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development," he said.

It was the third time that the two leaders jointly inaugurated border markers. The two neighbors share a 1,270-km border.
