Six Cambodians Killed, 24 Hurt in Thailand Van Crash
Cambodia Daily | 9 June 2016
Six Cambodians were killed and more than 20 others injured in
Thailand on Wednesday morning when the van they were traveling in
overturned, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ministry spokesman Chun Sounry said the 30 Cambodians in the van had
entered Thailand illegally in search of work and were traveling through
Sa Kaeo province, which borders Banteay Meanchey province, at the time
of the accident.
“Six of them, three men and three women, died in the van.”
Mr. Sounry said the other 24 passengers were sent to the hospital in Sa Kaeo, two with serious injuries.
He said the Thai driver was arrested and that the Foreign Affairs
Ministry was in the process of securing a lawyer in hopes of winning
compensation for the families of the injured Cambodians, but noted that
the group’s undocumented status in Thailand could make this difficult.
