Cambodian Red Cross collects 13.4 mln USD at annual fund-raising drive

PHNOM PENH, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) raised 13.4 million U.S. dollars during an annual event marking the 154th World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day here on Monday.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany, the CRC's president, attended the ceremony and received cash donations from hundreds of donors including senior officials, businessmen and foreign diplomats.
Speaking at the event, Hun Sen praised the compatriots, foreign diplomats and businessmen in Cambodia for their support to the CRC.
"On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I'd like to express my profound thanks to all donors for your contributions to the CRC," he said.
"Your contributions reflect our solidarity for humanitarian cause."
The Chinese embassy to Cambodia donated 20,000 U.S. dollars to the CRC.
