Cambodia competitiveness is sitting at bottom level in global ranking for decades and does not seem to be able to improve substantially is mainly due to 3 major symptoms of the current Khmer Culture & Societal Mentality:
1. Prominence – I know best so just listen to me 2. Dominance – I am the Boss so just listen to me 3. Tribalization of Issues – You are not from my Group/Clan so you cannot be trusted and thus no need to listen to you
The above 3 major symptoms preclude all comprehensive integrated approach as a whole for the Government to tackle issues cohesively. Ministries conduct their work within their premises as Ministers do not reach out across ministries to build bridges with cabinet peers and private sector key players to further understand how the global trading environment functions. Complex issues of today challenging world lie in 2 dimensions: domestically & internationally.
