Cambodian Opposition Slams Foreign Minister Over Claims of Coup Plot
RFA | 12 October 2015
Cambodia’s political opposition party on Monday slammed the country’s top diplomat for accusing its leaders of plotting to overthrow the government, while a commentator warned that such allegations could damage the “culture of dialogue” between parties in the Southeast Asian nation.
On Oct. 10, foreign minister Hor Namhong told a gathering of soldiers in southeastern Cambodia’s Tbong Khmum province that the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) had been planning to “topple the government.”
He said the CNRP had begun plotting to “seize power” by organizing a popular revolt after losing elections to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) in 2013, referring to a series of protests the opposition led following the polls.
CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann on Monday hit back at Hor Namhong, saying his party had no intention of leading a violent movement to overthrow the government and that the 2013 demonstrations were held to demand a vote recount, amid widespread allegations that the polls were neither free nor fair.
“In a democratic world, elections are held to change leadership in a government,” he told RFA’s Khmer Service, adding that achieving victory through the polls should not be considered a plot to take over the country.
“The CNRP is adhering to the principles of peace and advocacy to bring about change in the government through a free and fair election.”
Political science professor Ros Ravuth told RFA that “false political rhetoric” could threaten the political balance in Cambodia, adding that the CNRP is incapable of carrying out a violent takeover of the government. On Oct. 10, foreign minister Hor Namhong told a gathering of soldiers in southeastern Cambodia’s Tbong Khmum province that the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) had been planning to “topple the government.”

“Incitement can lead to political instability,” he said.
“It can lead to discrimination against the opposition party and a split in unity.”
In July last year, CNRP leader Sam Rainsy signed an agreement with Hun Sen to break a deadlock and end a boycott of parliament by 55 opposition lawmakers which had arisen from the disputed general elections a year earlier.
Both leaders then committed their parties to a “culture of dialogue” that would allow them to work together for the interest of the country, though the rival political groups have publicly aired a number of disagreements since then.
The CNRP had earlier refused to recognize the result of the 2013 elections, saying it was robbed of victory by the CPP amid accusations of rigging and other malpractices blamed on the government-appointed National Election Committee, which organized the polls.
Dear Compatriots,
ReplyDeletePlease let me propose the solutions, including but not limited to the followings:
1. Let the 2018 election run its course.
The CNRP will definitely win again.
2. When the loser Hun Sen refuses to relinquish his power, the leaders of the CNRP officially advise the the signatories of the 1991 Peace Accord of the wishes of the Khmer people, and at the time solicit their support and help.
3. The CNRP shall then mobilize the Khmer people to mass-protest all over the country
SIMULTANEOUSLY.
4. When the body counts reach a certain number, the signatory countries WILL come to our rescue.
5. The UN will convene an emergency session to impose corrective measures to both Cambodia and Vietnam.
Dear Khmer brothers and sisters, the Vietnamese are willing to lose their lives to
invade somebody else 's country.
Why don't we lose ours to defend
OUR MOTHERLAND ?

Mr Um Sam An,
ReplyDeleteThank You for your unrelenting efforts to serve Cambodia.
You are undeniably one of our Khmer heroes.
Some Khmer traitors such as Ah Chor pneak Muoy Hun Sen, Ah Yuon Hor Mam Lhong, etc. are not appreciated your spirit of nationalism because in their dumb heads you are a bone in their Yuon masters' throat.
Keep up the good work !!
Steps to keep Cambodia alive:
ReplyDelete1- Don't go into Yuon's traps by doing something violent. Violence will empower the
Yuon's slave Hun Sen to crush Khmer people at will.
In 2014, Ah Kwack Hun Sen had staged violence and blamed it on the CNRP. That's why we must be vigilant about Yuon's tricks. Ah Kwack Hun Sen just executed his
master Yuon's orders.
2- Stay united with the CNRP even though its leaders especially Sam Rainsy had made some tactical mistakes.
We must understand that this is a long struggle. We make some corrections as
time goes by.
3- Help the CNRP to win this next election first. If the Yuon's slave party CPP does not
relinquish its power, we will fight from there. This time, the 2018 election, it is hard
for the CPP to just "self proclaimed" itself as the winner like it did in 2013. By
winning, we will have a solid foundation to fight. And the International Community
will support us afterward. Fighting Hun Sen to abide by the result of the election is the right thing to do. The key for success is to win the general election first. It is
imperative that we stay together with the CNRP so that it could officially win the election.
4- We already had some experiences and we are not going to make the same
stupid mistakes in 2018. If the CNRP's leaders tend to make stupid mistakes again, we stop
them first - remove them if necessary - while the CNRP is still the winner of the election.
We will not let them take us down again.
5- Presently, some people are making huge mistakes when they moved away from the
CNRP. Making the CNRP lose the election by breaking it apart is the evil Vietnam's
top priority.
In brief, to survive, we must stay united with the CNRP !!
In brief, it's boring, tiresome, and useless to see the cut and paste of the same thing over and over again all over the place. Just an idea, not as brilliant as your repetitive one.
